  1. Short: 80 More NewIcon images!

  8. This set contains approximately 80 images for you NewIcons enthusiasts
  9. out there.  These all use the standard NewIcon palette, so they won't
  10. allocate any extra pens from your workbench if you are already using
  11. Newicons.
  12.  
  13. Included are images not found in the original NewIcons archive
  14. or the NewIconsXtra set #1.  Many are totally original, some are adapted
  15. from parts of Roger McVey's work, and a few others are adapted from
  16. images done by other aspiring isoicon artists.  There seemed to be a
  17. few necessary images missing from the above packages, so I put together
  18. several for my own use.  I thought that some of you out there might
  19. find these useful.  I don't profess to be a great artist, but I feel
  20. these images reflect the "NewIcon standard" fairly well.
  21.  
  22. Most of the Apple emulator images came from the NewIconsXTRA set, but I
  23. fixed the apple to look more like the real logo.  Some of the net icons
  24. I tried to pattern the "look and feel" after their MagicWB equivalents,
  25. such as those from the fine work of Osma Avenlampi (Tau) in MLink and
  26. NapsaTerm.  I also added in an icon for the Devs/Datatypes drawer.

  28. It would be nice if authors would include more NewIcon images
  29. in their packages.  For those not using NewIcons, they don't see them
  30. anyway, and it saves the trouble of having to deal with deleting those
  31. peach and purple MWB icons that conform to only one ugly palette.  You
  32. can easily make them from DPaint IFF brushes, so let's start seeing them!

  34. Regardless of whether you prefer MWB or NewIcon images, it's important to
  35. remember that the NewIcons system works with either type of image, and gives
  36. you the benefit of not having to worry about what your palette is set to
  37. in preferences.  The images will auto-remap to the appropriate color.
  38. Personally, I prefer the NewIcons style, but you can use NewIcons to adapt
  39. your icons to any style you like.  Kudos to Nicola for making such a fine
  40. system, and to Roger for his excellent artwork.  It's been fun working
  41. with you guys.

  43. Installation:

  45. If you plan to use these images, you need the NewIcons Package.  It's
  46. available on Aminet (pub/aminet/util/wb/NewIcons.lha).  If you are not
  47. running NewIcons, you will only see little squares for the icons, and
  48. this package will be of no use for you.  Check the preview IFF to get
  49. some idea of what these icons look like.  To install these images, use
  50. the "copynewicon" utility to transfer the images over to the appropriate
  51. icon.  DON'T use the "creatdefaulticon" utility.  That's for creating
  52. NewIcon images for files that don't have .info files attached to them.
  53. Copynewicon is safe to use on your existing icons, because it won't mess
  54. with your default tool or your tooltypes.  Also, DON'T just copy the .info
  55. file over to your existing programs, because you won't keep your default
  56. tool or tooltypes that way either.  Like the NewIcons documentation says,
  57. think of this collection as a catalog of "images" rather than icons, from
  58. which you copy the image over to your other programs, rather than replacing
  59. the whole icon itself.

  61. This set is freely distributable, and the individual icons may be used or
  62. modified as you please.  If you pass on the package to others, please keep
  63. the archive intact with its documentation.
